Not going to lie...I do NOT own the most impressive sunglasses collection. It used to be bigger and filled with cheaply made Target knock offs. But you really get what you pay for. The lenses would fall out, the arms would lose their resistance, and I would end up going through these cheapies like tissues. In the long run, I found that it was actually *cheaper* to invest in a well made high end pair, then keep replacing the ones I kept picking up at the H&M check out. Hence, it takes some time to build up my collection again. But I think I have started with a strong foundation, so I wanted to share the sunnies that I recommend for everyone to include in their wardrobe! Tortoise - BurberryThe newest additions! I just received this newest pair in the mail within the past few weeks, and I practically haven't put them down! I was looking to add a tortoise colored pair to my collection, and had recently purchased a similar Burberry pair on Poshmark. However, 10 days went by and the seller still hadn't shipped. I was super disappointed, but filed a claim and got my money back to start the search again. It must have been meant to be because within a few days a found an even *cuter* pair at a cheaper price! $44 dollars later they were mine. I used to to have a pair of tortoise Rayban Wayfarers and after 6 years of love they went missing, yet to be found. :( I was really missing them, especially for outfits including neutrals that aren't black (navy, grey, tan). It's a little detail, but that's why I find a tortoise sunny so important for my wardrobe. Black oversized - ChanelYou've seen these bad boys a few times! These are also an eBay find, and I got them for a mere $35! Super lucky find, because I had been hunting similar pair like this for months, and they rarely went for anything less $75. They have a few minor scratches on the lenses, which I plan to have replaced sometime in the future, but it's not super important as they are only noticeable when you look very closely. Black oversized sunnies are a total SoCal staple. I imagine Real Housewives or athlete wives strolling Rodeo Dr, hiding their faces from any paparazzo. Or maybe they are hungover. Whatever the reason, I love an oversized black pair of sunglasses to chic up any thrown together outfit. A little funky - DiorWe all need that one fun pair for festivals! Big surprise: eBay! I've had this pair for a little while now, I bought them almost two years ago on an auction style listing. I waited until the very last 10 seconds, and probably peeved someone off when I made a bid only a few dollars over their highest bid leaving them with no time to counter. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! Ultimately, this pair belonged to me for only $30. While this pair doesn't get as much love as the others, I think it's important to have that one pair of sunnies for fun events or when you need to perk up a bland outfit. Big pink cat eyes definitely know how to work some jeans and a tee! AViators - Ray-BanYou guys...these peeps right here are the REAL MVPs.
I bought them nearly 7 years ago at our base's BX (Base Exchange for you non military peeps). The BX is a store for military personnel that carries a lot of mid end clothing, shoes, accesories, and home goods at cheaper prices with no tax. I ended up buying them brand new for $90. These poor things have hit nearly every type of surface and ended up in too many toilets to count (no worries they have been ncredibly cloroxed!) Surprisingly they have minimal scratching and still a lot of life. This is a true life example of when paying more is cheaper in the long run! No matter what brand aviators you purchase, they are a low key but classic option to bring an outfit together. If I had to recommend one design of sunglasses for your collection, this would be the one to start with. Thanks so much for reading! Would love to hear what your favorites sunglasses are. Leave a comment below or send me a message! 1. Light-weight Trench A classic trench screams cool temps, but they can be sweltering if you are carrying around pounds of material. This light trench is made of a light Nylon blend so it wears super light. Especially for areas like Southern California, this is crucial when it is a cool 60 degrees in the morning but later rises to near triple digits. A trench like this polishes any outfit, whether it is a skirt with heels or jeans with flats. The above Burberry trench is a find I made earlier this year, you can read more about how I find it at such a great deal HERE. 2. Sweater Dresses A sweater dress is another great weapon for battling heat in these later months. It allows for CRUCIAL breeze while still maintaining the appearance of warmth. As mentioned in my previous post (that you can read HERE) it is important to stick to light weight, natural materials (ie cotton, linen) to ensure you remain cool and that the material doesn't add any extra sweat (I am looking at you Polyester!) The above Burberry sweater dress is on total repeat in my closet, especially for work as my office likes to maintain an ARCTIC TUNDRA at all times. It was a birthday gift from the hubs a few years back. But he got the idea (and link) from me, because I am a girl that know what she wants! Therefore, that would be how he purchased it off The Real Real for $100, including shipping and tax. 3. Bandana Scarves This post is on a Burberry streak! (Because Burberry is everything lovely and classic in the world, that's why <3) A small bandana sized scarf is perfect for getting the illusion of adding accessories for warmth without passing out from heat stroke. It's a cute detail that is great with t-shirts, dresses, button downs, what have you. This particular scarf was an eBay find for $25, and even came with the original box! Total score. 4. Camel Color Everything Nothing screams Autumn like a rich camel! This warm brown color is reminiscent of falling leaves and apple cider and all things wonderfully fall. Whether it is a bag, your shoes, a dress, whatever, you will instantly looks ready for September-December with this color. *Currently on the hunt for a camel colored sweater dress, if you come across one please help a sister out!*
You can read more about these adorable suede booties HERE! If you have other fall wardrobe essentials for looking cute while beating the heat, please share below in the comments! Happy hump day all! If you live close to the equator like mwah, you will understand the struggle of dressing fall-dorable without becoming a total sweat monster. At the same time you will probably freeze indoors because every AC will be blasting. #firstworldproblems While temps are still summer high in SoCal, it is possible to still pull off an autumn ensemble without being miserable. Keep scrolling! Ralph Lauren Tie Up Top (new, $20) Lululemon Leggings (new, $90) Stuart Weitzman OTK boots (secondhand, $200) Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bag (new, $50) Chanel Cat Eye Sunglasses (secondhand, $30) Outfit Total: $390 The first rule of fall dressing is opting for light, natural materials. Say hello to cotton and linen, and bye bye to polyester and rayon. Natural materials like cotton and linen are lightweight and breathable, which means your human steam won't be brewing underneath your clothes. Ew. Man-made materials are highly processed and thick, meaning no air flow. Bonus: these natural materials are higher quality that will stand the test longer against wear and washing. Winning! Fall time also means incorporating longer sleeves and bottoms. Skin is for summer! You want to make sure your pieces are thin (cotton! linen!) and breathable. I also love to opt for a rolled up sleeve, allowing for a breath of fresh air which can be rolled down when you head to the frigid indoors. Boots are a total fall staple. Adding a pair to your ensemble (even with shorts!) is an easy way to transition your outfit into the new season. Ankle booties or OTK, any will do! Lip color: MAC PatentPink lip crayon Maybe it is just me, but I prefer to stick to neutrals during Fall and Winter. My wardrobe is particularly white and black, but I typically save my *few* color items for spring and summer for a pop of color. Maybe it has something to do with the changing of the colors in nature, but I think incorporating more creams and charcoals into your outfit instantly helps you match these later seasons. In conclusion! When dressing for a warm fall, you will want to
Happy Tuesday beauties!
I thought I would share a wardrobe staple that I have been scouting on eBay and putting on serious repeat since the temps started to rise (GREATLY) in SoCal. The classic polo dress! |
