Not going to lie...I do NOT own the most impressive sunglasses collection. It used to be bigger and filled with cheaply made Target knock offs. But you really get what you pay for. The lenses would fall out, the arms would lose their resistance, and I would end up going through these cheapies like tissues. In the long run, I found that it was actually *cheaper* to invest in a well made high end pair, then keep replacing the ones I kept picking up at the H&M check out. Hence, it takes some time to build up my collection again. But I think I have started with a strong foundation, so I wanted to share the sunnies that I recommend for everyone to include in their wardrobe! Tortoise - BurberryThe newest additions! I just received this newest pair in the mail within the past few weeks, and I practically haven't put them down! I was looking to add a tortoise colored pair to my collection, and had recently purchased a similar Burberry pair on Poshmark. However, 10 days went by and the seller still hadn't shipped. I was super disappointed, but filed a claim and got my money back to start the search again. It must have been meant to be because within a few days a found an even *cuter* pair at a cheaper price! $44 dollars later they were mine. I used to to have a pair of tortoise Rayban Wayfarers and after 6 years of love they went missing, yet to be found. :( I was really missing them, especially for outfits including neutrals that aren't black (navy, grey, tan). It's a little detail, but that's why I find a tortoise sunny so important for my wardrobe. Black oversized - ChanelYou've seen these bad boys a few times! These are also an eBay find, and I got them for a mere $35! Super lucky find, because I had been hunting similar pair like this for months, and they rarely went for anything less $75. They have a few minor scratches on the lenses, which I plan to have replaced sometime in the future, but it's not super important as they are only noticeable when you look very closely. Black oversized sunnies are a total SoCal staple. I imagine Real Housewives or athlete wives strolling Rodeo Dr, hiding their faces from any paparazzo. Or maybe they are hungover. Whatever the reason, I love an oversized black pair of sunglasses to chic up any thrown together outfit. A little funky - DiorWe all need that one fun pair for festivals! Big surprise: eBay! I've had this pair for a little while now, I bought them almost two years ago on an auction style listing. I waited until the very last 10 seconds, and probably peeved someone off when I made a bid only a few dollars over their highest bid leaving them with no time to counter. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do! Ultimately, this pair belonged to me for only $30. While this pair doesn't get as much love as the others, I think it's important to have that one pair of sunnies for fun events or when you need to perk up a bland outfit. Big pink cat eyes definitely know how to work some jeans and a tee! AViators - Ray-BanYou guys...these peeps right here are the REAL MVPs.
I bought them nearly 7 years ago at our base's BX (Base Exchange for you non military peeps). The BX is a store for military personnel that carries a lot of mid end clothing, shoes, accesories, and home goods at cheaper prices with no tax. I ended up buying them brand new for $90. These poor things have hit nearly every type of surface and ended up in too many toilets to count (no worries they have been ncredibly cloroxed!) Surprisingly they have minimal scratching and still a lot of life. This is a true life example of when paying more is cheaper in the long run! No matter what brand aviators you purchase, they are a low key but classic option to bring an outfit together. If I had to recommend one design of sunglasses for your collection, this would be the one to start with. Thanks so much for reading! Would love to hear what your favorites sunglasses are. This dress has been on total repeat since I received it in the mail a few weeks back! The pattern with the black and creme neutrals + the collar and zipper is incredibly classic and gives me 60's vibes. Its cotton and so comfy for work with tights or flats, but can also be dressed up with heels. Ralph Lauren Dress [new, $20], Chanel Ballet Flats [secondhand, $200], Chanel Cat Eye Sunglasses [secondhand, $30], Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bag [new, $55] outfit total: $310 I am a total sucker for a sweater dress, because I am a girl that just doesn't appreciate the negative confinement of pants. One of my regular searches for eBay or Poshmark is simply "sweater dress," because I really haven't come across one I don't like. #nopantsnoproblem Anyway, I found this dress a few weeks back on eBay after a routine search for my favorite wardrobe item. I came across this beauty was UNDER $20, NEW WITH TAGS, made of 100% COTTON, and came with FREE SHIPPING. I hit that buy button as quick as I could because there was no way I couldn't live with myself for passing this up. I don't think I have enough fingers to count how many times I've worn this dress in the short few weeks that I have had it. No shame in the sweater dress game. Yep, still constantly rocking the Chanel sunnies. I was so excited to recently add a nice classic pair of glasses to my collection. Be on a look out for a post later this week where I share all the deets on my sunglasses, including my newest pair! You guys have definitely seen a lot of this bag. It is really my only option for a nice, small, dark chained bag when I'm going out/don't feel like lugging around a huge carry all. At the top of my list right now is to add a high end clutch or crossbody to my wardrobe for date night or events. Currently keeping an eye out for either Gucci or Louis in the $50-100 range. When I find the perfect piece at the right price, it won't take long to make it's way here!
As always, thanks so much for reading and definitely leave your comments and thoughts below! Diane Von Furstenberg is definitely high on my list of favorite brands. Her pieces are classic (im looking at you wrap dress!) and so well made that they will last a lifetime. Of course with any beautiful brand comes a high price tag. A new DVF wrap dress will set you back ATLEAST $300!
And on that note, I have no shame to admit that every piece of DVF I own has been bought secondhand. With any thrift purchase, especially from a source that doesn't authenticate (i.e. eBay), you will want to know what to look for to ensure you are not buying anything knockoff. Keep scrolling to learn a few BIG tips and tricks when buying your new to you DVF! Some time has passed since the last update on Fancy Free Boutique or reselling tips, so I thought I would make a joint post for you guys on all things resale and eBay! First off, FFB UPDATE! I just haven't been able to find the time (and persistence) to grow my eBay store as much as I really want to. Right now I have around 50 items up for sale, but some of the resellers I follow have upwards of 1000 items! They are sourcing, posting, and shipping all day every day, but most of them are doing this as their full-time job. I am setting a goal for myself to have 100 items up for sale by 2018, and to try and maintain at least that at all times. Currently, I have made around $400 in net profit after all my expenses (all inventory, shipping, eBay fees, packaging, etc.) since starting the store back in February. The first few months were deep in the red as I continued to source items while still growing my presence and rating on eBay. It's definitely not much, but hey, at least it's some sort of a profitable side business! I'm hoping for the future to see this at least every month once I grow my listed inventory. I'll continue to share my journey in the future! Now for the tip! Reselling Tip: Don't Forget the Details! From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to have a brand that promoted beauty and appreciation from start to finish. No matter what you are paying for an item, you are a customer that deserves to feel special and lovely. As someone who loves a good deal, I know this oh so well. When someone messages me on eBay about a product, before ever being a customer, I respond quickly with a formal and cordial message that is always ended with a "Best, Sydney". I feel it creates a more personable experience, and most people respond using my name in the next message. Even after a purchase is made, it is important to me to continue the appreciation with nice packaging and wrap of the item. No matter what I buy online, I am always excited for it to come. Imagine how nice to come home to your door step to find such an adorable package waiting for you! I got these adorable mailers from Amazon! If you spend $10 or $100, every item is wrapped in tissue paper sealed with a Thank You sticker. Every purchase is appreciated! I also include in every package a thank you note that includes information on the blog, letting them know where to go if they are interested in high fashion on a low budget. I was surprised to find how many people actually end up finding themselves on the blog after purchasing from me! I have received private messages with appreciation for their purchase, and even how happy they were with the packaging! She said it brought a smile to her face, and that is all you really want for a customer am I right??
